Description

The occipital plane is the smooth, superiorly located, convex area found along the external surface of the squamous part of occipital bone. It is separated from the nuchal plane by the superior nuchal lines and consists of the supreme nuchal lines.

The occipital plane provides an origin site for the occipital belly of occipitofrontalis muscle and an attachment site for the epicranial aponeurosis.
