Description
The pelvic surface (anterior surface) of sacrum is the smooth, concave, anterior aspect of the bone. It consists of the anterior sacral foramina and four transverse ridges, and it contributes to the formation of the posterior wall of the pelvis.
The pelvic surface of sacrum provides an origin site for the piriformis muscles and an insertion site for the coccygeus muscles. It also provides an attachment site for the anterior sacrococcygeal and anterior longitudinal ligaments. The median and lateral sacral vessels and the caudal end of the sympathetic trunk travel along this surface.
