Description

The posterior root is the area on the dorsal aspect of the base of the zygomatic process of temporal bone. It extends laterally from the inferior portion of the squamous part of temporal bone. As it travels anteriorly, the zygomatic process twists and its posterior root becomes its superior margin.

The posterior root of zygomatic process is continuous posteriorly with the supramastoid crest and it provides an attachment site for the temporal fascia.
