Description
The posterior surface is the smooth, concave area on the posterior aspect of the manubrium of the sternum. It is one of the two surfaces of the manubrium, the other being the anterior surface, and is an area that is bounded by the superior, inferior and two lateral borders of the manubrium of the sternum.
The posterior surface of manubrium of the sternum provides an origin site for the sternohyoid and sternothyroid muscles. It also provides an attachment site for the sternocostal ligaments.
