Description

The scaphoid fossae are the two oval, shallow depressions found along the posterior aspects of both the right and left medial plates of the pterygoid processes of sphenoid bone. On its corresponding side, each scaphoid fossa is located anteroinferior to a pterygoid tubercle and provides an origin site for a tensor veli palatini muscle.
