Description

The superior articular processes are the two upwardly projecting processes located on the base of the sacrum. They are found in the area where the body of the first sacral vertebra meets the ala of the sacrum.

The superior articular processes of sacrum consist of posteromedially facing superior articular facets. They articulate with the inferior articular processes of the fifth lumbar vertebra, forming zygapophyseal joints.
