Read moreDescription
The superior articular processes (superior zygapophyses) are the two upwardly projecting processes located at the lateral parts of the vertebral arch of a lumbar vertebra. They extend from the junction between the pedicles and laminae.
Overall, the superior articular processes of lumbar vertebrae consist of mammillary processes and posteromedially facing superior articular facets. They articulate with the inferior articular processes of the vertebra above, forming zygapophyseal joints.
