Description

The supraorbital notch is the gap found along the anteroinferior aspect of the frontal bone. It is located at the junction between the medial one third and the lateral two thirds of the supraorbital margin.

In some individuals, the supraorbital notch is converted into a passage, known as the supraorbital foramen, by a bridge made of either fibrous or osseous tissue. This results in individuals having either:

—a supraorbital notch on both the right and left supraorbital margins;

—a supraorbital foramen on both the right and left supraorbital margins;

—a supraorbital notch on one supraorbital margin and a supraorbital foramen on the opposite supraorbital margin, which is what is shown in our anatomical model.

Regardless of whichever one is present, both the supraorbital notch and supraorbital foramen allow for the passage of the supraorbital nerve and vessels to the forehead.
