Description

The third costal notches are the lateral facing articular areas found along the lateral borders of the body of the sternum. They are one of the seven pairs of articular facets that are found on the lateral borders of the entire sternum.

Each third costal notch articulates with the third costal cartilage on its respective side, forming the third costosternal joints.
