Description
The tubercle of seventh rib is a small prominence on the external surface of the junction between its neck and its body. It consists of two parts:
—a smooth, medially located articular facet, which articulates with the transverse process of seventh thoracic vertebra;
—a rough, laterally located non-articular part, which provides the attachment site for the costotransverse ligament.
Overall, only the first to tenth ribs have a tubercle, while the eleventh and twelfth ribs lack this bony feature.
