Structure/Morphology
The nutrient artery enters the shaft of long bones obliquely through the nutrient foramen and divides into the ascending and descending longitudinal arteries. The longitudinal arteries give off smaller branches into the bone marrow and the surrounding compact bone, then they branch off into smaller vessels known as arteries of the central canal.
