Connecting Canal
Quick Facts
The connecting canal serves as a passage from nerves and vessels from the mandibular canal to root canal.
Structure and/or Key Feature(s)
The connecting canal carries blood vessels and nerves from the mandibular canal into the root canal. Specific to the mandibular first molar, it carries the branches of the inferior alveolar artery and nerve and the corresponding veins and delivers them to the root canal to facilitate delivery of blood and nerve signals to dental pulp (Standring, 2016).
Function
Facilitates the delivery of blood and nerve signals to the dental pulp by carrying the relevant vessels and nerves that supply them (Standring, 2016).
