The proper ovarian ligament is a short ligamentous structure and is a remnant of the gubernaculum (a fibrous band that guides the descent of the gonads during embryogenesis).

The proper ovarian ligament is attached to the inferomedial aspect of the ovary, as well as posteroinferiorly aspect of the uterine tubes, and the lateral angle of the uterine body.
Function
This ligament helps to retain the ovary in place in the pelvic cavity.
