The fibrous tissue of the tunica albuginea testis thickens posteriorly as the mediastinum testis.
Key Features/ Anatomical Relations
This internal aspect of the mediastinum of the testis consists of a fibrous connective tissue network that gives off numerous incomplete septa that attach to the tunica albuginea. The septa separate the testis into approximately 250 lobules. Each lobule contains one to four convoluted seminiferous tubules (Standring, 2016).
Function
The mediastinum of the testis supports the rete testis and the testicular vessels as they enter and exit the testis.
