Key Features/Anatomical Relations

The renal columns are extensions of the renal cortex that separate adjacent renal pyramids.

Function

The renal columns provide passage for blood vessels to extend throughout the renal cortex as they continue towards the renal pyramids. The columns also contain fibrous connective tissue contributing to the stroma of the renal cortex.
