CiteScore: A Comprehensive Journal Impact Metric
CiteScore is a journal impact metric developed by Elsevier that offers a comprehensive and transparent view of a journal's performance. Unlike traditional metrics, CiteScore includes a broader range of publications, such as book series and conference proceedings, providing a more accurate representation of a journal's influence.
Key Benefits of CiteScore:
Comprehensive coverage: Includes a wider range of publications compared to traditional metrics.
Timely updates: Provides more current data than some other metrics.
Transparency: Offers clear and verifiable calculation methods.
Fairness: Ensures a level playing field for different types of journals, including open access publications.
How CiteScore is Calculated
The calculation data comes from 334 disciplines in Scopus, covering over 29,777 peer-reviewed journals, book series, conference papers, and trade publications. CiteScore calculates the average number of citations received by a journal's articles over a four-year period. To determine this, it divides the total number of citations by the total number of documents indexed in Scopus for the same period. This formula focuses on peer-reviewed publications, including research articles, review articles, conference papers, book chapters, and data papers. The calculation formula is as follows:
