The European Molecular Biology Laboratory

Elsevier and The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) 打開新的分頁/視窗 have entered into an agreement detailed below which ensures authors publishing in Elsevier journals are compliant with this open access policy.

Agreement

EMBL requires electronic copies of any research articles that have been accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, to be made open access as soon as possible and be available through Europe PubMed Central (Europe PMC) no later than six months after publication. This requirement applies to research supported in whole, or in part, by EMBL which is published from 15 June 2015 — discover the full open access policy 打開新的分頁/視窗 of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.

Gold open access

Authors can choose to publish gold open access in one of our established hybrid journals or in one of our open access journals 打開新的分頁/視窗.

A publication fee is required to be paid in order to make an article open access. Authors are asked to check with EMBL on details regarding payment. Elsevier's open access publication fees range between c$150 and c$6,000 US Dollars excluding tax and are journal specific — please refer to the guide for authors on the journal homepage.

When publishing under either one of these open access options, the corresponding author will be given a choice of two Creative Commons licenses. EMBL policy states that authors choosing the gold open access route are required to select a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license.

Elsevier will deposit the final published journal article in Europe PMC, on behalf of the author. The version that appears in PMC will have a CrossMark® identifier and link back to the authoritative version of record on ScienceDirect.

Please note: When publishing with Elsevier, the only way a researcher can comply with the EMBL OA policy is to select the gold open access ("author pays") option. Journals published by The Lancet, do not provide a gold open access option, but allow authors to self-archive their manuscript six months following publication (see green open access).

Green open access

Journals published by The Lancet allow EMBL funded authors to self-archive their accepted manuscript to Europe PMC after six months.

Please note: If you are a EMBL funded author and if any of your previously published Elsevier-published articles prior to 15 June 2015 are not available in Europe PMC, then you may use Elsevier's sharing policy to deposit papers in this repository. Deposits made via this route must adhere to the journal-specific embargo 打開新的分頁/視窗. Such articles can be posted under a CC-BY-NC-ND license.
