A habitable, fairer and more connected world

We highlight Earth Science research for a habitable world, lead publishing programs that advocate for a fairer world, and create opportunities for the intersection of ideas for a more connected world.

Habitable world

New, innovative thinking supported by diverse Earth Science research ensures a sustainable world where societies can thrive.

Our annual conference, Habitable Earth – Geoscience for Sustainability, is a forum where researchers across the globe meet to share and discuss major scientific themes that span academic frontiers and research hotspots.

Fairer world

Global problems require global solutions and that means diversity in thought, perspective, and approach.

One demonstration of our commitment is the 2024 OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World for innovative research that meets the challenge of improved water quality, an issue that disproportionately affects women and girls around the world.

Connected world

Facilitating connections within and between disciplines, across regions, and at all career stages is key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Open access lies at the core of Elsevier’s publishing mission – in fact, today, almost all of our journals offer open access options. That means finding the right open access home for your research is easy. Whatever route you choose, publishing with Elsevier means your work benefits from the input of expert editors and reviewers. And if you publish gold open access, it is immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download from ScienceDirect. Our gold OA titles also feature in major indexes and databases.
