Gilberto Brambilla

Gilberto Brambilla received the M.Sc. degree in engineering (cum laude) from the Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy, in 1996, and the Ph.D. degree in optoelectronics from the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton, Southampton, U.K., in 2001. He is the Director of the Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Photonics, University of Southampton. He is also a Royal Society Principal Research Fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre. His research interests include the fabrication of devices and sensors based on optical fiber nanowires, couplers and tapers, the study of photosensitivity in silica-based glasses, the manufacture of Bragg gratings for sensors and the investigation of their thermal stability, the fabrication of fiber sensors for X-rays and nuclear radiations, and the manufacture of components for high-power fibre lasers. He has published more than 240 papers in journal and international conferences and he authored three patents.
