Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)

Authors funded by Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Wird in neuem Tab/Fenster geöffnet are required to make their articles open access within 12 months of publication. HHMI policy applies to research on which any HHMI scientist is an author, including HHMI investigators, group leaders and fellows at the Janelia Farm Research Campus, and other institute employees.

HHMI authors who submit articles for publication in Elsevier journals can:

  • Publish gold open access with us in an open access journal or journal that supports open access, and then self-archive the final version of their article in PMC

  • A publication fee is payable by the author

    • Elsevier's fees range between c$150 and c$10,100 US Dollars excluding tax

    • Visit the individual journal homepages for specific open access pricing information

    • Authors may be able to access institutional or other funds to help pay open access publication fees

  • All articles published open access have permitted reuse, which is determined by the author's choice of user license

Or:

  • Publish in a subscription title — in this case they can self-archive their manuscript and make this available publicly after the journal specific embargo period Wird in neuem Tab/Fenster geöffnet (which in some cases will be longer than the 12 months allowed under the HHMI policy)

  • Authors should ensure a CC BY-NC-ND license is attached to the posted article on PubMed Central (or another relevant repository)

  • Authors should ensure that there is a link back from their posted manuscript to the final version of the article hosted on ScienceDirect so their article can be cited
