UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI, formerly RCUK) implemented an open access policy from 1st April 2022. For details of how to publish in Elsevier journals, please see below:
Gold open access
UKRI-funded authors can comply with UKRI’s open access policy by publishing gold open access in the majority of Elsevier’s journals, in order to make the published journal article (the Version of Record) immediately available under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license.
To choose the gold open access option, a publication fee, or Article Publishing Charge (APC) is payable by the author or institution. Elsevier's fees range between c$150 and c$9,900 US Dollars, excluding tax. Visit the individual journal homepages for specific open access pricing information.
APC payments for articles published in fully open access journals will be reimbursed. To help UK authors use funds to publish gold open access in hybrid journals in line with UKRI's policy, Elsevier has reached an Agreement with Jisc. See eligible institutions here.
Upon publication, Elsevier will:
Enable authors to identify themselves as being funded by UKRI via our funding body form
Provide the option to publish with a CC BY license, as required by UKRI
Add the CrossMark® identifier and links back to the authoritative version of record on ScienceDirect
Provide immediate and permanent free access to the final published article on ScienceDirect
