Juan Enrique López Asensio, Medical Student - Alfonso X El Sabio University (Spain)

9. November 2023

Please briefly describe who you are and your role?

I am Juan Enrique López Asensio, a medicine student from Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio, Spain

What problems were you attempting to solve when you started using ClinicalKey?

I had been taught at the university how to search for information in a proper way, but ClinicalKey has been my first “go to” method since I discovered it because it has a lot of information from books plus a good variety of “full research documents” from clinical trials. In my view it is faster. So, whenever I have to do a research for an activity, or to look something up, I have a good field of information which I know to be solid. Furthermore, it is really useful when I don’t understand something that I am studying, because most of the books that my professors recommend are from Elsevier and I can access them online from my room or when I’m in the long bus ride to class. I have to say that I prefer studying and reviewing in physical books, but I can’t always go to the library or the books aren’t always available, so ClinicalKey is very useful also in this regard because it saves me time. One of the methods of studying that I love to use are questions about the lessons, and although I have to say that some questions from ClinicalKey are not in my programme, or are somewhat different, it is a tool that I use because it gives me an idea of my knowledge on the topics.

From your point of view, what are the biggest benefits you found in using ClinicalKey in your day to day routine?

As I have already talked about them previously, I will just say that it saves me time for example, when I do not understand a topic well, because although I prefer reviewing in physical paper, I am not always able to go to the library. Furthermore, I personally find it easier to research in ClinicalKey since I see it more “user friendly”, and Elsevier listens to the suggestions provided by the users. Moreover, the tests helps me test my knowledge and boost my confidence towards the subject.

What is the primary reason you would recommend ClinicalKey?

I see in a positive way that Elsevier listens to the opinion of the users. My overall opinion about it is that it saves me time and I can rely on what I get from it.

Is it important in your daily clinical activity to have access to diagnostic support tools?

Even though I only see my professors taking care of people who are unwell, from my point of view, having as many tools in order to view as much examples as possible about what I am studying in the degree, apart from the virtual hospital classes provided by my university, will help me fix the knowledge I am acquiring. So, when I finally begin taking care of ill people, I would be able to relate the theory with my daily clinical practise.

What benefits have you encountered since using the ClinicalKey app?

I think that having an app is really handy, because it allows you to access quality content on the go. To study in the Community of Madrid means that I have to spend a lot of time waiting for the public transport and in the public transport.
