Osaka Metropolitan University, Japan
Akio Sohma is a Professor at Osaka Metropolitan University and Chief Director of the Center for Urban Socio-Ecological Systems (CUES).
He specializes in mathematical ecology, focusing on water-sediment coupled processes. His research covers coastal ecosystem restoration (hypoxia and red tide mitigation), productivity enhancement (nature-positive approaches), and climate change mitigation (blue carbon).
He has recently expanded into ecosystem network dynamics, emphasizing species persistence, functional group sustainability, and resilience.
His work advances the prediction and assessment of ecological dynamics to inform policy-making and enhance public understanding of ecosystems.
Prior to entering academia in 2016, he served as Research Director at a think tank affiliated with the Mizuho Financial Group.
