Steve Armes, University of Sheffield, UK
Talk: Designing Synthetic Mimics for Cosmic Dust Particles: From Colloid Chemistry to Space Science via Hypervelocity Physics
Steve graduated from Bristol University (BSc 1983, PhD 1987). He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1987 to 1989 before accepting a lectureship at Sussex University. He was promoted to Professor in 2000 and moved to Sheffield University in 2004.
Steve has published 727 papers (H-index 128). His interests include polymerisation-induced self-assembly, water-soluble polymers, block copolymer self-assembly, Pickering (nano)emulsions, gels, foams, colloidal nanocomposites, polymer brushes, and designing synthetic mimics for cosmic dust.
He has received six RSC medals and a Royal Society medal. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2014.
