Biosensors 2025 is a three-day event consisting of daily plenary presentations followed by parallel sessions comprising a rigorously refereed selection of submitted papers. In addition to invited lectures, selected oral contributions will be included as extended keynote presentations.
Summer school
The Congress will also include two optional summer schools immediately before the Congress focusing on Continuous Monitoring Biosensors and Synthetic Biology for Biosensors. Continuous Monitoring Biosensors Summer School Monday 19 May 2025
Continuous glucose sensors have changed the way diabetes is managed for patients worldwide. But what will next generations of continuous biosensors look like, for monitoring other diseases and other biomarkers? How can biomarkers with micromolar concentrations (and below) be measured continuously, like hormones, pharmaceutical drugs, and inflammatory markers? How fast can the sensors respond, and how long will they be able to operate continuously? Which applications will become possible in the future and what sensing performance will be needed for those applications?
The workshop starts with a plenary session where an overview will be given of recent developments in the field of continuous sensing, with focus on biomarkers at micromolar levels and below. We will discuss molecular and detection concepts of sensing technologies that are able to monitor increases as well as decreases of biomarker concentrations and that operate without consuming any sensing reagents in order to be suited for longterm use. After lunch, application ideas will be discussed in breakout sessions: patient monitoring in hospital settings, personal health monitoring, micro-biosystems, industrial processing (food/pharma), and environmental monitoring. The workshop will end with pitches and a plenary discussion.

Congress Dinner
An optional Congress Dinner will take place on Wednesday 21 May in Restaurant Kais on the docks of the Tagus river. The restaurant is housed in a late XIX century old warehouse which has been restored and modernised but its main theme keeps its old character fully intact and concentrates on what the building was originally established for, the generation of electricity of the Lisbon trams.
