The NuMat organizing committee are delighted to announce that the eighth meeting will be held in Singapore, from 14–17 October 2024.
The Nuclear Materials Conference (NuMat) was created in 2012 in association with the Journal of Nuclear Materials to serve as an umbrella for international meetings on nuclear materials science related to fission and fusion reactors and the overall nuclear fuel cycle.
Following on from NuMat 2022 in Ghent, Belgium, where over 500 delegates presented their work, NuMat 2024 will focus on broad topics of interest to the nuclear materials community centred around nuclear fuels, structural materials, and fundamental & applied radiation effects in metals, ceramics, polymers, and functional materials.
For the 2024 meeting, three additional plenary sessions will cover the rapidly growing status of nuclear power in Southeast Asia. Two tracks will focus on fuels, two on structural materials, and one on radiation effects and damage in other types of nuclear materials.
There will be seven plenary speakers, plus an opening plenary from the 2024 recipient of the Robert Cahn award, and a presentation from the best paper prize recipient from the Journal of Nuclear Materials. There will be three parallel sessions including workshops and poster sessions which will cover the breadth of research within nuclear materials.
Also new this year will be a series of flash talks for each poster presenter, given at the end of the day in each track just before the poster session begins. This provides an opportunity for every poster presenter to have a short oral presentation and serves to entice all attendees to come to the poster sessions.
The following broad topics will be covered:
Metallic alloys for structural components
Refractory metallic materials
Cladding materials including coatings
Fuel materials, absorbers, and fuel cladding interaction
Cement & ceramics
Polymers
Advanced manufacturing
Simulation of radiation damage
Fundamental radiation effects in materials
Linking simulations and experiments in nuclear materials
The Journal of Nuclear Materials Wird in neuem Tab/Fenster geöffnet publishes high quality papers in materials research for nuclear applications, primarily fission reactors, fusion reactors, and similar environments including radiation areas of charged particle accelerators. Both original research and critical review papers covering experimental, theoretical, and computational aspects of either fundamental or applied nature are welcome.
The breadth of the field is such that a wide range of processes and properties in the field of materials science and engineering is of interest to the readership, spanning atom-scale processes, microstructures, thermodynamics, mechanical properties, physical properties, and corrosion, for example.
The open-access journal Nuclear Materials and Energy Wird in neuem Tab/Fenster geöffnet is devoted to the growing field of research for material application in the production of nuclear energy. Nuclear Materials and Energy is supported scientifically by the Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik, Garching, Germany.
The scientific support by the Max-Planck Institut für Plasmaphysik also underlines its contribution to the field of research on plasma-facing materials and specifies the scientific scope of the Journal. The emphasis will be on materials employed in reactors where they are exposed to extreme environments in terms of radiation, temperature and corrosive conditions.
